About the artist

The lives and art of Toti and John David O'Brien have long been parallel and intertwined. Spanning their roots in Italy and in particular Rome and their abiding presence in Los Angeles and in particular the Brewery their paths have both diverged and converged in multiple instances. The core of Toti's work is narration and that is accomplished through multiple means including painting collage assemblage and functional crafts of many types. The center of John's work is abstraction that is accomplished also through the same avenues as Toti's but also includes public art and large scale installations. In their past, working with the artist and sound creator Steve Roden and artist and silversmith Sari Roden, John and Toti have created performance work traveling from Los Angeles to France and Italy and Slovenia (to name a few) and have structured art events (including group exhibitions) in which they have participated as artists along with others from the greater Los Angeles area together with local artists from abroad. They're melding of these worlds has been a constant in their polyhedric creative arcs. The Brewery has been a hub of their work for many years and they are both proud and honored to be a part of the ongoing ArtWalks.
